My New Hair: A Travel-Perfect Hairstyle

I’ve been growing out my hair for the past two years in the hopes of achieving glamorous Blake Lively worthy waves and layers, and when I reached that elusive anything-is-possible length I realized one huge hair lesson: the idea was fabulous, but the style wasn’t true to me.

I was left uninspired, with a lifeless curtain of hair, endless knots given the frequent climate changes and desperate to nail down a style that was aligned perfectly with my boss hustle,  active lifestyle and wanderlust spirit. After months of secret Pinterest boards and several days saying goodbye to those hard-earned fabulous nine inches of hair, I made a major beauty change and found the perfect style for jetsetting and home-life alike.

THE COLOR:  I craved an icy blonde that has the ability to work in all seasons and which is easy to spruce up with low-lights in colder months. I have fair skin so this drastic lift requires a bit more attention on facial contouring and eyebrow sculpting in the mornings (so I don’t look overly washed out), but it gives an extra push to always be Instagram-ready. My fabulous fabulous fabulous (did I mention fabulous) stylist also hand-painted my roots a dark ashy blonde to create that gorgeous contrast an add longevity to the color, a huge helper for a girl who is always on the road.

THE CUT: I didn’t want to jump on the Lob bandwagon, but I definitely wanted a shoulder-length cut with tons of texture so I could easily achieve volume when styling in the morning without spending one hour on my hair alone. My hair usually drys horribly flat, so adding these layers and side-swept bangs make a wild difference in framing my face and ties my overall beauty and personal style together flawlessly.

THE STYLE: Shorter goes a drastically longer way for me style-wise, especially since I’m always on the go and in need of being photo-ready. This style is practical, chic and it’s perfect for creating that voluminous beach-swept do in under 10 minutes (for jetsetters and girls with a daily hustle that never stops, those 10 minutes fit perfectly into any itinerary). I am obsessed with volume and can’t wait to play with this style in TMJ’s coming beauty posts!

Looks beautiful, Kortney! I’m always trying to grow mine out too but I’m with you that low maintenance is key.

Absolutely, Kristin! It takes me 10 minutes to style now and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
